Large City Climate Summit; Rotterdam leads world ports to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
NEW YORK, 17 May 2007 - Rotterdam, Shanghai, Houston, Singapore, Sao
Paulo, Los Angeles and Tokyo will work together to reduce the greenhouse
gases emitted by the international shipping industry. This is one of the most
important results of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative for the representatives
on their visit to the Large Cities Climate Summit in New York, which
concluded today. The Large Cities Climate Summit is the second summit of
the C40 Large Cities network, in association with the Clinton Climate
Initiative. Rotterdam is a part of this network. Other results are the
international collaboration in certifying biomass and the use of residual heat
from the industry. Agreements have also been made for cooperation with
the Port Authority of New York.
